Selling Your House During the Holidays

Wednesday, December 02, 2009

Any holiday season is normally busy and hectic, and deciding to sell your home during these times can potentially add more stress. Making sure your house is effectively staged will help it stand above the competition. When it comes to decorating for the holidays while your house is on the market, remember to keep decorations to a minimum and focus on using simple and nondenominati onalitems. Choosing to use natural ornamentations like fresh greenery, pine cones, gourds and white lights will create the feel of the holiday season that will appeal to a wide range of potential buyers. Avoid lighting candles during showings even if they are protected as they could be subject to an accident.

You can still enjoy the holidays even if your house is on the market. Remember to reinforce your best selling features. Add items that will enhance an attractive focal point and not hide any of the elements that a potential buyer could be looking for. Once the holiday season is over, remove all of your decorations as soon as possible.

Regarding the exterior of your home; keep driveways, walkways and porches clean and clear. Hang a simple wreath on your front door that warmly welcomes buyers and works well with your exterior colours. Using natural elements like pine or cedar boughs will emit a pleasant fragrance as buyers enter the house.

Focusing on presenting your home’s best features during the holiday season will help to sell your house quickly and for the best possible price.
