The owner of Walls Alive Painting Company, Likuski has spent 20 years in the coating industry. Unlike many painters, he has both a technical and practical background. His interest in painting was born out of his close relationship with his grandfather - a very well known painter/craftsman. Trained as a journeyman painter, completing numerous painting projects, Likuski decided his path was taking him to university. But the ties to the painting industry were strong. Following graduation, he became a technical rep for a major paint company and a Scandinavian wood finishing company. After beginning his career on the production side of the business he thought he’d never again find himself with a paint brush in hand but after many years he tired of his desk job and started yearning to work with his hands. He decided to found his own painting company. Walls Alive has experienced tremendous growth in the six years it’s been in business. Started with himself as the company’s single employee, Likuski is now associated with other specialists who can make sure the needs of the company’s residential and industrial customers are met. A collective of independent artisans and professional painters provide his customers with everything from murals, to faux wood finishes to wallpaper hanging. Likuski credits his success to customer satisfaction. "Referral is the hardest currency in this market. Eighty per cent of our business is referral-based,” says Likuski. To ensure customers are happy with the final result, Likuski first creates a rapport with the client so a clear understanding is reached about what they want the final result to be. Then he personally supervises the work. "I’m involved with every project . . . I’m on site. There are so many variables with each job and you have to make sure that everyone is on the same page.” Likuski also prides himself on the the professionalism and speed with which his company can complete a job. "I’m a big believer that convenience is paramount. We want to minimize inconvenience to our customers. We are in and out. Because of the paints we use and the expertise of our painters, most rooms can be back in use within a day.” Walls Alive uses a virtually odourless, 100 per cent acrylic paint system that’s quick-drying and provides a tough, durable finish. As an added bonus, the paint is meant to adhere over oil-based paints making conversion from oil to acrylic safe and easy. Likuski notes more people are taking a personal interest in home decorating, and they are also more willing to experiment with color. "Paint is a very popular medium of self-expression,” he says, noting that at $40 a can, people can afford to take a chance on something new and different. Paint has obviously become an important medium for self-expression for Likuski, too; creating many beautiful homes and custom paint projects. The young man who never thought he’d wield a paintbrush again has become an entrepreneur who "bleeds paint”. His grandfather would be proud.

A sponsor of the Oakville Rangers Minor Bantom A team.

Walls Alive Painting is proud to have sponsored the Oakville Rangers Minor Bantom A team. Changing colour schemes in our home is a great way to lift your spirits during the Winter Season. Whether it’s a new colour for the kitchen, a child’s bedroom, or a new look for the family and living areas; why wait for spring to redecorate? Color is a powerful form of self expression and ‘Re-defining your living space’ can be a great way to beat the winter blahs. Paint companies are already forecasting new spring colors, and this is one way you can be a step ahead; ready for the warmer weather that will soon return. Walls Alive Painting firmly believes that "convenience is paramount” when decorating your home and is committed to the environment. This is why we are proud to be an Eco-friendly Painting Company, and only use low odor, durable, paint products in our paint applications since their inception to the Canadian markets over the past ten years. We are proud to be a solvent free painting applicator! The strong paint fumes historically associated with painting have been eliminated with the introduction of a new generation of paints. 100% acrylic latex paints with no v.o.c’s (volatile organic compounds)- chemicals that are released as noxious fumes when paint dries, which affects the indoor air quality that we breathe , are ideal for the interior repainting of a home. The fast dry times of these paint systems allow rooms to be painted and put back in to use by days end, further eliminating any inconveniences to the home owner. With the count down to Green Day April 22nd, Walls Alive Painting is introducing a new line of paint products for its applications. Exciting new European, technology and Color palettes to choose from, no two homes are alike, so ‘wear your home like your favorite sweater’ during these cold winter months. Our experienced teams of professional painters work in crews and carry out the painting process in a fashionable manner. Do you find yourself using the same colours for certain rooms frequently? What makes these colours work with the rooms? No two homes are alike. Colour is a cost effective, powerful form of self expression! Re-defining your living space with colour reflects the clients style and taste and a lot of colours chosen can be found in their closet with the clothes they wear. When developing a client’s own "Colour Story” you must first look at the flooring and furniture and decide which palette would best suit their surroundings. Decorating homes and styles are changing from earth tones to cool and crisp, or the developing European trend of light off white or white walls, with feature walls of distinction. What kind of room can "pull off” a more "trendy” colour scheme? (Like a bright, almost lime green colour or another combination of vibrant colours) What elements within the room help make the colour choice pleasant and kept it from looking "ugly”? Every Paint Manufacturer forecasts colours from the IKEA colours to the Pottery Barn, to the classic or contemporary. Benjamin Moore Paints has done a terrific job forecasting these colours over the years! The newest Palette reflects the trend the decorating market is taking on for the next five years! What are some of the easiest colours to paint over? Why? The new generations of Eco friendly paints are self priming and have great hiding values over light to medium dark colours. What is one of the more popular colours among the ones you have used to paint? Why do you think the colour is so popular? Would you recommend this colour to those looking to re-paint a room prior to a home re-sale? Staging a home is becoming very popular in the Real Estate market to ensure that your biggest asset gets the best return in value. With a high level of inventory you want to make sure that your home stands apart. By neutralizing the home with colours such as Barely Beige, Moccasin, and other neutral taupe’s by Benjamin Moore Paints and doing a tone on tone colour palette lets the potential buyer have an elegant yet trendy to work from. A lot of new home owners need to get use to their new home before they decide to decorate. Is there a particular technique used when painting with certain colours? (very light or very dark colours, for example) Preparation is first and foremost when painting. All surfaces must be fully prepared prior to the application of the first coat of paint. Sheen values must also be factored into the equation. Different rooms require different sheen values from a Flat Finish to eggshell which is common for a majority of rooms to a semi gloss or Pearl Finish for High Traffic areas and Kitchens and Bathrooms. Correct straight lines by brush and the correct roller sleeves are paramount in the paints application. Darker colors sometimes require a basecoat for hiding purposes. Are there tools or tricks you use to help reduce (or enhance) light reflection for certain types and colours of paint? Light reflection is just as important as flooring when developing a painting program for decorating. Some colours become chameleonic and change throughout the day. Designers we work with consider this first and foremost when planning a colour template for a client. Paul Likuski, Owner Walls Alive Painting Celebrating 15 years of our Green alternative Painting Process for all your Decorating Needs!

Save on heating and be energy efficient with this Green paint Additive!

What a Great Idea Walls Alive Painting will be meeting with soon to evaluate! Paul, owner of Walls Alive Painting has been an advocate of eco-friendly products, using only low odour, durable and solvent-free paint products in all the company’s applications since he started his business 15 years ago. Volatile organic compounds, also called VOC's, are found in solvent-based paints and when used in enclosed areas can cause a variety of health conditions such as: eye and skin irritation, lung and breathing problems including asthma, headaches, nausea, muscle weakness and liver and kidney damage." "VOC's are consistently ten times higher indoors than outdoors, with numbers rising to 1,000 times higher after a new coat of paint," says writer Christi Graham, featured on www.HealthyHomePlans.com. In the past VOC chemicals were considered necessary for paint to be high performance, but new environmental initiatives have promoted the development and sale of low-VOC and zero-VOC paints, stains and finishes. Low-VOC and zero-VOC paints are less harmful to humans and the Earth but are still durable and affordable. As green products become more readily available on the market these alternative paints will become more cost effective, especially for homeowners with children. Walls Alive Painting is excited about the new line of eco-friendly, no-odour paints that Benjamin Moore has launched in the market place. "We are now committed to solely using these paints on all our residential repainting projects”, says Paul. "The durability of the paints and eco-friendly properties fit well with our commitment to the environment and clients needs.” he adds. These paints, which are one hundred percent acrylic latex with no VOCs are ideal for the interior repainting of a home because they release no noxious fumes when the paint dries, thereby positively affecting the indoor air quality. The fast dry times of these paint systems allow rooms to be painted and put back in to use by day’s end, further eliminating any inconvenience to the home owner. One of the new products Paul especially likes and considers the finest Benjamin Moore Paint is Aura. This paint can be mixed to match any color - you get the color you want with a rich, beautiful finish that will last for years. Walls Alive takes great pride in ensuring each client is completely satisfied with the end results of their painting efforts. "Service is a priority and a "spring board to growth,” and we strongly believe in the philosophy that "you are only as good as your last project,” so we make sure each one counts”, says Paul. The company is also a non-smoking company. "Our experienced teams of professional painters work in crews and carry out the painting process in a fashionable manner. We believe "Referral” is the hardest currency in today’s market and our use of "safe paints” in carrying out each project adds to our strong referral ratings. We’re proud to say that over 85% of our business comes from referrals”. The Walls Alive Painting Company is a full service established painting company. Walls Alive Painting is overjoyed to announce that the house of owner Paul Likuski is going to be featured on HGTV's hit show Urban Suburban! The show is based on a couple moving from a busy city such as Toronto, to a smaller more picturesque neighborhood for the easier commute and the larger less hectic neighborhood. At the end of the episode the couple will decide if they want to stay in the city or move to a less busy town such as Oakville. Filming is set to take place between May 24th-26th. In your painting experience, what colours have worked best for which rooms? Do you find yourself using the same colours for certain rooms frequently? What makes these colours work with the rooms? No two homes are alike. Colour is a cost effective, powerful form of self expression! Re-defining living space with colour reflects the client’s style and taste and a lot of colours chosen can be found in their closet with the clothes they wear. (Like a bright, almost lime green colour or another combination of vibrant colours). What elements within the room help make the colour choice pleasant and kept it from looking "ugly”? Every paint manufacturer forecasts colours from the IKEA colours to the Pottery Barn, to the classic or contemporary. Benjamin Moore Paints has done a terrific job forecasting these colours over the years! The newest palette reflects the trend the decorating market is taking on for the next five years! What are some of the easiest colours to paint over? Why? The new generations of eco-friendly paints are self priming and have great hiding values over light to medium-dark colours. Neutralizing the home with colours such as Barely Beige, Moccasin, and other neutral taupe’s by Benjamin Moore Paints and doing a tone-on-tone colour palette lets the potential buyer have an elegant yet trendy look to work from. A lot of new homeowners need to get used to their new home before they decide to decorate. Keep an eye out for Paul and Walls Alive Painting on HGTV’s Urban Suburban, In it’s In Augural Season, scheduled to be released September 2011.

Walls Alive Painting: it's in the air we breathe

Walls Alive Painting is celebrating its' 15th year of servicing Oakville and Halton Region with its Green Alternative for all your painting needs. Paint companies are already forecasting the new summer colours, and this is one way you can be one step ahead. Walls Alive Painting is excited about the new line of eco-friendly no odour paints that Benjamin Moore has launched in the market place that we are now committed to solely using on all our residential repainting projects. These durable paints and eco-friendly properties fit well with our commitment to the environment and clients needs. Walls Alive Painting firmly believes that "convenience is paramount” when decorating your home and is committed to the environment. This is why we are proud to be an eco-friendly painting company and only use low odour, durable paint products in our paint applications since our inception to the Canadian Markets over ten years ago. We are proud to be a solvent free painting applicator. The strong paint fumes historically associated with painting have been eliminated with the introduction of a new generation of paints. One hundred per cent acrylic latex paints with no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)-chemicals that are released as noxious fumes when paint dries, which affect the indoor air quality that we breathe, are ideal for the interior repainting of a home. The fast dry times of these paint systems allow rooms to be painted and put back in to use by days end, further eliminating any inconvenience to the home owner. Walls Alive Painting is introducing a new line of paint products for its applications. Benjamin Moore’s new technology and colour palettes to choose from, no two homes are alike, "so wear your home like your favourite golf shirt” during the warm summer months. Our experienced teams of professional painters work in crews and carry out the painting process in a fashionable manner. Color impacts our mood, our appetite, our energy level. Years of color response research have shown that certain colors elicit specific--and often strong--responses. COLOR WARM UP Red, orange, and yellow Colors in the red, orange and yellow families are referred to as "warm" colors since they evoke images associated with heat, like fire or sunshine. As a result they make us feel warm in a psychological sense. Red This powerful color increases blood pressure and heart rate. It often produces feelings of intimacy, energy, passion and sexuality. It also stimulates the appetite and is often used in restaurants and is an excellent choice for dining rooms in the home. Orange Like red, orange warms a room but in a less dramatic and passionate way. The mood and attitude of orange is more friendly than fiery; more welcoming than seductive. Orange works well in living rooms and family rooms and is also a good choice for children's bedrooms. Yellow Yellow grabs attention and catches the eye like no other color, hence the use of yellow highlighters in offices. In poorly lit foyers and hallways, yellow shows the way. In their bedrooms, elderly people report that yellow lifts their mood. But bright yellow can be too strong and may actually cause anxiety in infants, young children and the elderly. COLOR COOL OUT Blue, green, and violet Blues, greens, violets and their intermediates are considered cool colors because of their references to pastoral landscapes and ocean vistas. When we look at these colors they elicit feelings of peace, tranquility and relaxation. Blue Soothing blue is an ideal bedroom color choice for adults and children. But that same blue that lulls us to sleep also suppresses our appetites, possibly because there are very few naturally blue foods. Put blue to bed, but try and keep it out of the dining room. Green As the dominant color in nature, we are at home with green anywhere in the house. Light greens work well in baths and living rooms; mid-range greens are a great accent for kitchens and dining rooms. The calming effect of green makes it popular in hospitals, schools and work environments. Violet Despite the favorable response violet elicits in children, many adults dislike purples, with rosier shades of violet being somewhat more appealing. Children's bedrooms and play areas may be good places to experiment with this color family." Visit http://bit.ly/aHVMCX for more information

The Importance of Painters

Jim Caruk, Master Contractor and HGTV Host, says "Painting is the most important trade in homebuilding. A house with walls that have been cleaned correctly leaves a general clean feel to the room and removes some allergens from the area. The most appropriate way to washing a wall is to start with the least aggressive method – water and a soft cellulose sponge. This ensures that the paint will remain on the wall and no pigment will be lost. When washing the walls, start at the top and work your way to the bottom while overlapping the cleaned areas to prevent streaks. Take care not to wet areas around outlets, light switches, telephone jacks, and other electrical connections. When scrubbing those spots becomes necessary, turn off electricity at thecircuit breakerbox. If the walls do not come clean using a sponge and water, use a mild, non-abrasive weak solution of dish detergent. Make sure to dilute the cleaning solution as this will prevent harming the paint film. There are many misconceptions about which products and cleansers should be used while cleaning walls. The paint may be affected if you use standard glass and household cleaners as they contain strong solvents that can damage the paint. If you are planning on painting your home in the near future, remember that gloss and semi-gloss enamels are more durable and easier to clean when compared to flat or latex paints. Here are some additional hints and tips to use while cleaning your walls ·Test your cleaning solution in an inconspicuous corner in case it is too strong and damages the paint ·Darker, flat paints are more susceptible to damage and pigment rub-off. ·Always rinse off walls after using any type of cleaning solution ·Rub gently in a circular motion to avoid damaging the paint ·Allow paint to fully cure before cleaning the walls. This takes up to 30 days ·Preventive maintenance means less time spent scrubbing later; vacuum walls with a soft brush attachment during your weekly cleaning session and wipe away fingerprints and other marks soon after they appear ·Remember: stronger cleaning solutions may remove some of the pigment of the paint On a side note, Walls Alive Painting was proud to be in attendance at Cause for Paws as a Silver Sponsor. The guests were able to bid on a "Professional Custom Room Makeover” (a $700 value) during the silent auction. All proceeds went towards saving the lives of homeless and abused animals. We have had a small amount of exterior projects, as we have had to postpone many until the temperature becomes more ambient. This ensures that the professional results we achieve by repainting will last for years to come. If you’ve been putting off that exterior painting project until the weather warms up in the summer, it might be best to just put it off until fall when the weather cools back down. To maximize job longevity, painting should not be done in direct sunlight or on highly humid days. If it is, the paint has a risk of drying without curing properly, and the paint has a high chance of not adhering properly. If you absolutely must have your painting project facilitated during our next heat wave, make sure you hire the right contractor. This contractor will have previous knowledge regarding hot summer painting and will begin their work days early in the morning and end early afternoon, as this is the coolest part of the day with the least amount of sun. If you are planning on purchasing a home and are interested in repainting, it is always a good idea to look in magazines and talk to paint suppliers as they both release the newest looks and colour trends for summer. Generally speaking, blues, greens, reds, oranges, and yellows are all in fashion this time of year, and will help your home compliment the colours of the outdoors. Although, painting a new home may not be as simple as it seems. As the client, make sure you are able to have potential contractors do a visual walkthrough of your new home. A lot of details can be missed by only viewing the pictures of a new property. For example, the condition of the walls may be different in every room which can lead the contractor to quote you higher than originally estimated. Planning a physical walk though of your new residence with your Realtor, will ensure you receive an accurate and detailed quote. Lastly, here are a few helpful tips to review before hiring a painting contractor: ·Ensure that the company has at least $2,000,000 liability insurance (W.S.I.B) and full workers compensation for all of their painters. ·Check to see if they are affiliated with the Better Business Bureau. ·Complete some background research on the company by viewing the company’s portfolios and websites. ·Ask for references that are current of projects which the company has recently completed.
