Do you find yourself using the same colours for certain rooms frequently? What makes these colours work with the rooms? No two homes are alike. Is there a particular technique used when painting with certain colours? (very light or very dark colours, for example) Preparation is first and foremost when painting. A house with walls that have been cleaned correctly leaves a general clean feel to the room and removes some allergens from the area. The most appropriate way to washing a wall is to start with the least aggressive method – water and a soft cellulose sponge. This ensures that the paint will remain on the wall and no pigment will be lost. When washing the walls, start at the top and work your way to the bottom while overlapping the cleaned areas to prevent streaks. Take care not to wet areas around outlets, light switches, telephone jacks, and other electrical connections. When scrubbing those spots becomes necessary, turn off electricity at thecircuit breakerbox. If the walls do not come clean using a sponge and water, use a mild, non-abrasive weak solution of dish detergent. Make sure to dilute the cleaning solution as this will prevent harming the paint film. There are many misconceptions about which products and cleansers should be used while cleaning walls. The paint may be affected if you use standard glass and household cleaners as they contain strong solvents that can damage the paint. If you are planning on painting your home in the near future, remember that gloss and semi-gloss enamels are more durable and easier to clean when compared to flat or latex paints. Here are some additional hints and tips to use while cleaning your walls ·Test your cleaning solution in an inconspicuous corner in case it is too strong and damages the paint ·Darker, flat paints are more susceptible to damage and pigment rub-off. ·Always rinse off walls after using any type of cleaning solution ·Rub gently in a circular motion to avoid damaging the paint ·Allow paint to fully cure before cleaning the walls. This takes up to 30 days ·Preventive maintenance means less time spent scrubbing later; vacuum walls with a soft brush attachment during your weekly cleaning session and wipe away fingerprints and other marks soon after they appear ·Remember: stronger cleaning solutions may remove some of the pigment of the paint On a side note, Walls Alive Painting was proud to be in attendance at Cause for Paws as a Silver Sponsor. We have had a small amount of exterior projects, as we have had to postpone many until the temperature becomes more ambient. This ensures that the professional results we achieve by repainting will last for years to come.   If you’ve been putting off that exterior painting project until the weather warms up in the summer, it might be best to just put it off until fall when the weather cools back down. To maximize job longevity, painting should not be done in direct sunlight or on highly humid days. If it is, the paint has a risk of drying without curing properly, and the paint has a high chance of not adhering properly. If you absolutely must have your painting project facilitated during our next heat wave, make sure you hire the right contractor.
