When I look back over the past 15 years, pioneering safe paints and introducing them to the market after a 30 year career in painting as well as a technical back ground with the major paint manufacturers, Walls Alive Painting was born 15 years ago with a dedication to providing convenient residential painting with the lowest possible no odour painting system that was durable, to our clients needs. The new generation of paints and our unique painting process makes painting your home as convenient as possible.

I am very happy that we were able to "redefine" the living spaces of all our client s over the years, by adding colour to their homes. From concept to completion, and by simply "Just Add Colour" and Interior Design, I am proud that 85% of our work is Referral based.
Making sure your house is effectively staged will help it stand above the competition. When it comes to decorating for the holidays while your house is on the market, remember to keep decorations to a minimum and focus on using simple and nondenominati onalitems. Choosing to use natural ornamentations like fresh greenery, pine cones, gourds and white lights will create the feel of the holiday season that will appeal to a wide range of potential buyers. Avoid lighting candles during showings even if they are protected as they could be subject to an accident.

You can still enjoy the holidays even if your house is on the market. Remember to reinforce your best selling features. Add items that will enhance an attractive focal point and not hide any of the elements that a potential buyer could be looking for. Once the holiday season is over, remove all of your decorations as soon as possible.

Regarding the exterior of your home; keep driveways, walkways and porches clean and clear. Hang a simple wreath on your front door that warmly welcomes buyers and works well with your exterior colours. Using natural elements like pine or cedar boughs will emit a pleasant fragrance as buyers enter the house.

Focusing on presenting your home’s best features during the holiday season will help to sell your house quickly and for the best possible price.

Our New Web Site has changed!!!!! Whether it's the bedroom or the back deck, the work is best done when the sky is clear and the air is warm. That's because paints are a potential source of air pollution, both indoor and out. Color therapy uses this sensitivity to color to identify and correct any imbalances in the body's internal energy patterns that might lead to emotional or physical ill health. Therapists believe that each organ

and body system has its own characteristic and vibrational energy, and disorders can be healed by applying color of the corresponding vibrational energy, either to the whole body or to the organ concerned.

For example, the red spectrum affects our physical energies. It is stimulating and warming. Blues are cooling and cleansing, affecting our spiritual energies. The yellow shades serve to bridge them, affecting our mental energies. The three colors together provide opportunities for healing our body, mind, and spirit.

Color could very well be the most magnificent experience we take for granted. Look around; it's everywhere, surrounding and embracing us. We interpret life as much through color as we do shape, texture and sound. The truth is, the power of color is the very essence of life. The effects of color on our moods, health, and way of thinking have been studied by scientists for years. Even an individual's preference for one color over another may be related to the way that color makes the individual feel.

Color can be described as light "visible radiant energy" of certain wavelengths. Photoreceptors in the retina, called cones, translate this energy into colors. The retina contains three kinds of cones: one for blue, one for green, and one for red. We perceive other colors by combining these colors.

Clearly, the color you choose for your clothes and for your home, office, car, and other surroundings can have a profound effect on you. Colors have been known to ease stress, to fill you with energy, and even to alleviate pain and other

physical problems. When selecting a color to effect a change in mood or to relieve discomfort, it is vital to choose the color suited to your particular objective.
From San Francisco, CA to Asheville, North Carolina, the green real estate market is hot and using Earth friendly products for home renovations is becoming standard practice. According to educational web sites and industry publications indoor air is often two or three times more polluted than outdoor air because of toxins found in paints, stains and finishes.

In his article entitled "Avoiding Paint Toxicity", published on www.ArchitectureWeek.com, writer Rick Braunshausen says, "Poor indoor air quality is one of the most serious problems that architects and engineers work to rectify in both new and existing buildings." "The effect of toxic agents from paints is especially dangerous when the building remains occupied during remodeling or repainting," he continues. So what can you do to protect yourself and your loved ones from harsh chemicals when painting inside your home? The first and most important step is to get educated.

The Air is Always Greener in a Home Safe From VOC's

Many homeowners and homebuyers are familiar with the dangers of lead paint. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission, http://www.cpsc.gov/, has a public safety alert posted online that explains what you need to know about lead based paint in your home. Homes built prior to 1980 are most at risk for lead contamination from paint. Real estate agents are required to provide a lead base paint disclosure form to any homebuyer investing in a home built prior to 1978. This is especially important for families because children have a higher sensitivity to lead. Lead paint must be ingested or inhaled for poisoning to occur and tests can be done on paint in your home if lead is a potential concern. Lead is not the only toxic substance found in paint, finishes and stains, however, there are other chemicals that are dangerous for both people and animals.

Volatile organic compounds, also called VOC's, are found in solvent-based paints and when used in enclosed areas can cause a variety of health conditions. According to writer Christi Graham, featured on www.HealthyHomePlans.com/, "The American Lung Association reports that VOC's can produce a number of physical problems such as: eye and skin irritation, lung and breathing problems, headaches, nausea, muscle weakness and liver and kidney damage." "VOC's are consistently ten times higher indoors than outdoors, with numbers rising to 1,000 times higher after a new coat of paint," Graham continues.

In the past VOC chemicals were considered necessary for paint to be high performance, but new environmental initiatives have promoted the development and sale of low-VOC and zero-VOC paints, stains and finishes. Low-VOC and zero-VOC paints are less harmful to humans and the Earth but are still durable and affordable. As green products become more readily available on the market these alternative paints will become more cost effective, especially for homeowners with children.

Green Living Tips for Painting the Interior of Your Home

Living a green lifestyle means many things to many people. Using non-toxic paints is a great first step to creating a healthier home environment. Here are some tips for getting started on your next painting project.

Tip 1. Use low-VOC, zero-VOC or natural paints. Currently there are a wide variety of paint companies on the market offering lines of non-toxic paint for indoor use. Alternative paint companies specializing in green products and even mainstream paint producers like Sherwin Williams have created low and zero-VOC products for indoor home use.

Tip 2. Always be certain you have enough air ventilation when painting your home and buy paints with sealing properties that help decrease outgassing. Keep in mind that outgassing is at its worst for the first four days. Large fans placed in open windows and doorways are essential for avoiding harmful fumes and even small amounts of VOC's.

Tip 3. Compare prices on various nontoxic paints. As the trend of green paint products gains attention alternative paints will continue to become more competitive in price. Many paints and other green products can be researched and purchased online.

Tip 4. Choose the right paint for the right job. Different types of paint serve different purposes in the home. For instance, if you plan to paint a kitchen or bathroom make sure the paint can withstand scrubbing and cleaning.

Tip 5. Buy the right amount of paint for the job. Find out the square footage of the room or rooms you want to paint and purchase the amount of paint necessary for that square footage. This will reduce waste and save money.

Environmental concerns will become more prevalent in the future and green real estate practices can help preserve the Earth and keep you and our family healthy.
"Redefine your living space with Colour!

Why wait to Re-Decorate?

                                  Why Wait to Re-Decorate?

Winter time we all find ourselves spending a great deal of time in our homes, and now is a great time to look around the home and plan to do the projects we have neglected, and to look at redecorating. Changing color schemes in our home is a great way to lift your spirits during the Winter Season. Whether it’s a new color for the kitchen, a child’s bedroom, or a new look for the family and living areas; why wait for spring to redecorate?

Color is a powerful form of self expression and ‘Re-defining your living space’ can be a great way to beat the winter blahs. Paint companies are already forecasting new spring colors, and this is one way you can be a step ahead; ready for the warmer weather that will soon return.

Walls Alive Painting firmly believes that “convenience is paramount” when decorating your home and is committed to the environment. This is why we are proud to be an Eco-friendly Painting Company, and only use low odor, durable, paint products in our paint applications since their inception to the Canadian markets over the past ten years. We are proud to be a solvent free painting applicator!

The strong paint fumes historically associated with painting have been eliminated with the introduction of a new generation of paints. 100% acrylic latex paints with no v.o.c’s (volatile organic compounds)- chemicals that are released as noxious fumes when paint dries, which affects the indoor air quality that we breathe , are ideal for the interior repainting of a home. The fast dry times of these paint systems allow rooms to be painted and put back in to use by days end, further eliminating any inconveniences to the home owner.

With the count down to Green Day April 22nd, Walls Alive Painting is introducing a new line of paint products for its applications. Exciting new European, technology and Color palettes to choose from, no two homes are alike, so ‘wear your home like your favorite sweater’ during these cold winter months.

Our experienced teams of professional painters work in crews and carry out the painting process in a fashionable manner. We take great pride in ensuring that each client is completely satisfied with the end result of our painting efforts. Service is a priority and a “spring board to growth”, and strongly believe in the philosophy that ‘you are only as good as your last project,’ so we make sure that each one counts! Referral is the hardest currency in today’s market, and our use of ‘safe paints’ in carrying out each project adds to our strong referral rating.
By Liz Benneian
Oakville Today

Paul Likuski jokes that he has “paint running through his veins”. The owner of Walls Alive Painting Company, Likuski has spent 20 years in the coating industry. Unlike many painters, he has both a technical and practical background. His interest in painting was born out of his close relationship with his grandfather - a very well known painter/craftsman.

Trained as a journeyman painter, completing numerous painting projects, Likuski decided his path was taking him to university. But the ties to the painting industry were strong. Following graduation, he became a technical rep for a major paint company and a Scandinavian wood finishing company.

After beginning his career on the production side of the business he thought he’d never again find himself with a paint brush in hand but after many years he tired of his desk job and started yearning to work with his hands. He decided to found his own painting company.

Walls Alive has experienced tremendous growth in the six years it’s been in business. Started with himself as the company’s single employee, Likuski is now associated with other specialists who can make sure the needs of the company’s residential and industrial customers are met. A collective of independent artisans and professional painters provide his customers with everything from murals, to faux wood finishes to wallpaper hanging.
Likuski credits his success to customer satisfaction. “Referral is the hardest currency in this market. Eighty per cent of our business is referral-based,” says Likuski.

To ensure customers are happy with the final result, Likuski first creates a rapport with the client so a clear understanding is reached about what they want the final result to be. Then he personally supervises the work. “I’m involved with every project . . . I’m on site. There are so many variables with each job and you have to make sure that everyone is on the same page.”

Likuski also prides himself on the the professionalism and speed with which his company can complete a job. “I’m a big believer that convenience is paramount. We want to minimize inconvenience to our customers. We are in and out. Because of the paints we use and the expertise of our painters, most rooms can be back in use within a day.”

Walls Alive uses a virtually odourless, 100 per cent acrylic paint system that’s quick-drying and provides a tough, durable finish. As an added bonus, the paint is meant to adhere over oil-based paints making conversion from oil to acrylic safe and easy.

Likuski notes more people are taking a personal interest in home decorating, and they are also more willing to experiment with color. “Paint is a very popular medium of self-expression,” he says, noting that at $40 a can, people can afford to take a chance on something new and different.

Paint has obviously become an important medium for self-expression for Likuski, too; creating many beautiful homes and custom paint projects. The young man who never thought he’d wield a paintbrush again has become an entrepreneur who “bleeds paint”.

His grandfather would be proud.
